Lewdness Charges Dropped Against Priest

TUNKHANNOCK -- Open lewdness charges against a  priest from the Diocese of Scranton were dropped Tuesday afternoon, according to the Wyoming County Press Examiner.

Father Daniel Doherty, an assistant pastor at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish in Tunkhannock was taken into custody earlier this month.

Authorities said Father Doherty was engaged in lewd behavior with an adult woman at Wyalusing Borough Park in Bradford County.

The District Magistrate did find Fr. Doherty guilty of trespassing in the park after hours.

The Diocese of Scranton suspended Fr. Doherty from public ministry after the charges were filed.
