THROOP — Isolated thunderstorms produced hail and lightning Monday in parts of our area.

In Throop some neighbors tell us lightning damaged the back half of the steeple of the former St. John’s Church on Sanderson Street.

It happened before 3 p.m.

A large tree nearby was also damaged.

Crews believe the steeple and the tree will have to be taken down.

Chief Meteorologist Tom Clark urges everyone to be cautious when lightning is in the area.
