HARVEYS LAKE -- Troopers in Luzerne County are investigating a home break-in which landed one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police were called to the home on Second Street at Harveys Lake shortly after 1 a.m. to a reported home invasion.

Brace's father, Paul Brace, tells Newswatch 16 that his 19-year-old son is critical after several surgeries.

The family said Brace was shot at least five times, including in the head.

A search warrant says Adam Weaver told police that four men forced their way into the home shared by three Misericordia University students.

The court paperwork says the four men then rummaged through the house, found Paul Brace sleeping in bed, demanded money and ended up shooting Brace several times in the arms, legs, chest, and head.

Troopers say the four men got $500 then took off.

Brace is a recognizable athlete in the Wyoming Valley. The freshman is a wide receiver on Misericordia's football team.

He's been a starter since his freshman year on the football team at Dallas High School where he was also a basketball player.

We talked with Paul Brace, Sr. who told us his son was supposed to help him make cider at Brace Orchards this morning  when he got the call.

"If there's somebody out there that realizes this is my son, to come and help apprehend these awful people that could actually shoot a 19-year-old son in the face. Nobody should ever have to go through what I'm going through today."

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police in Wyoming at 570-670-2000.
