SCRANTON — Police officers who have passed away were remembered Wednesday at an annual memorial.

The ceremony was held at Scranton Police Headquarters along South Washington Avenue.

Among those remembered were Scranton police officers who died this past year.

Lackawanna County Judge Vito Geroulo also read the names of officers who were killed in the line of duty. The last one was in the early 1950s.

Officers also laid a wreath in front of the memorial that is dedicated to those officers.

Right now, the memorial includes 12 names of fallen officers, but the department recently learned of another killed back in 1907.

“It was nice to find out that somebody out there was actually looking into that stuff. They found that there is another officer that needs to be added to our memorial and I’m more than happy to have that happen,” said Ptlm. Anthony Gieda.

A historian for the Scranton Fraternal Order of Police uncovered the information about the 13th officer killed in the line of duty.
