WILKES-BARRE -- Jury selection started Monday at the trial for a woman accused of trying to help her son cover up a shooting that killed a teenager in Wilkes-Barre.

Also in court, a judge reinstated charges against her that had been dropped.

Angelina Deabreu was in Luzerne County court for a hearing on charges of false reports and hindering apprehension or prosecution.

It's been just over a year since Tyler Winstead, 14, was shot and killed on Hill Street in Wilkes-Barre.

Investigators initially said he was the victim of a drive-by shooting but they later determined that Elijah Yussuf, 13, had shot him.

Elijah Yussuf's case was handled in the juvenile system.

His mother Angelina Deabreu was charged with covering up the incident.

Last August, she agreed to a plea deal in exchange for some of the charges being dropped. Deabreau then changed her mind and asked for a trial.

This morning, a judge ruled that because she didn't follow through with the guilty plea, those charges could be reinstated.

Deabreu's trial started with jury selection. So far, no jurors have been seated.
