NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY -- In one week alone, there have been several major wrecks in a 15 mile area of Northumberland County.

Monday, a four vehicle crash north of Elysburg left Route 54 closed for hours.

Wednesday, just outside the borough of Mount Carmel, police said a tri-axle truck hit seven vehicles, went over an embankment, and hit a business after the driver lost control.

Route 61 in that area was closed for hours.

Then, an SUV and dump truck crashed near Paxinos.

Route 61 was closed for cleanup in that area too.

"It's horrible to hear, but it just backs up traffic all over the place, it's hard to get to Danville to work or wherever I'm going," said Carl Blass of Shamokin.

Police are investigating what happened in each crash.

In the meantime, people who live and travel in the area said they are hoping there are not any more wrecks anytime soon.

"It's a big inconvenience. That's the only way you can get from Danville to Elysburg, so pretty much it adds about half an hour or more onto your drive home," said Tyler Servose of Elysburg.

"It's very difficult when you're going to Elysburg to Danville, the traffic just gets so tied up, and I know the other night the road was closed until like 9:30," said Beth Norman of Elysburg.
