Teen Faces Arson Charges

MOUNT CARMEL- A 13 year old from Mount Carmel is facing arson charges in relation to a Sunday fire.

Police say the fire happened on North Chestnut Street, where they took the boy into custody.This property is connected to an apartment building on East Avenue that was gutted by fire in 2010.

Police say the teen admitted to setting a blanket or curtain on fire in the basement so he could stay warm.

Investigators say another boy who was with the teen cooperated with police but hasn’t been charged yet.

Authorities say the fire caused about $2,000 worth of damage to the basement of the home.
