TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP — Churches in the Poconos are coming together to help a food pantry feed more than 200 families.

Pocono Lake Wesleyan Church bought the vacant Lake House Tavern and Restaurant in Pocono Pines.

It will be the new location of the Top of the Mountain Ecumenical Food Pantry.

The building the pantry had been operating out of was sold and organizers needed a new place to feed families in the Blakeslee, Mount Pocono and Effort areas.

“It is wonderful, it is really wonderful, and you know, you have to … give back and this is their way of doing it and I’m very excited,” said food pantry coordinator Stella Surowitz.

Organizers tell us Habitat for Humanity in Monroe County will renovate the building. Work is expected to begin later this month.
