Several Philadelphia news outlets report Governor Tom Corbett`s son-in-law is the target of an investigation into police corruption.
In the midst of those reports, we learned that Corbett's daughter was hired as a prosecutor in the very same office where her father was state attorney general!
When Tom Corbett took the Oath of Office to be the 46th governor of Pennsylvania in January, 2011, he was flanked by his daughter Katherine and her husband, the governor`s son-in-law, Philadelphia Police Officer Gerold Gibson.
According to ABC affiliate, WPVI in Philadelphia, Gibson is now the target of an investigation for stealing money and clothes from targeted drug homes in that city.
The station also reports police caught Gibson carrying $140 in marked bills in a sting operation.
Governor Corbett was in Scranton Friday, promoting privatizing state liquor stores, and he had little to say about the case.
"You have a statement and that's all we're going to give," said the Governor. "Thank you. Thank you for understanding."
In that statement governor Corbett said he is, "Surprised and concerned to learn about the allegations regarding my son-in-law, Gerold Gibson. (My wife) Susan and I continue to give our family our love and support. "
The governor`s daughter is not connected to the criminal investigation involving her husband.
However, it puts her in the spotlight, raising questions about how she was hired by the agency her father headed for eight years, by Linda Kelly, the woman her father appointed to succeed him.
We brought these questions to current Attorney General Kathleen Kane.
Her office only released these basic details.
*Katherine (Corbett) Gibson was hired to the state office from the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office February 6, 2012.
* Gibson makes $69.771 per year.
Newswatch 16 filed a right to know request so we can learn if there was a nepotism policy at the time the governor's daughter was hired, and to see if she is restricted from certain prosecutions while her husband remains the target of a corruption investigation.
