HUGHESTOWN -- Flames tore through the roof of a home in Luzerne County Tuesday.

It broke out around 2 p.m. at the home on Parsonage Street in Hughestown.

Flames continued to burn in the attic until finally the roof collapsed under the pressure of the fire.

Pattie Flynn is one of six people who lived in the two units. She tells us that her mother-in-law owns the home and lives in the second unit. She wasn't home at the time but her father-in-law and mother-in-law were. They called her to come home after escaping from the blaze.

The house is a total loss and everything the family owned is destroyed.

“My mother and father-in-law were home. They got out and then they called us to come home and the house was fully engaged and the ones who didn't get out were my two cats,” said Flynn. “The house is gone, the floors all collapsed the firemen said everything is gone.”

It took firefighters from several departments well over two hours to get this fire under control.

The family is staying with relatives.

There is no word from fire officials on the cause.
