SCRANTON -- A disgraced former state senator is scheduled to report to federal prison Friday.

Former state senator Bob Mellow was originally set to begin serving time on public corruption charges Tuesday but a judge has given him until Friday to report.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons assigned Mellow to a minimum security prison camp in Salters, South Carolina.

Because the prison bureau notified Mellow of the assignment Monday afternoon, Mellow’s lawyers asked for the delay so he could report in person.

Mellow had asked to serve his 16 month term for mail fraud and tax evasion at the Waymart facility in Wayne County so he could be closer to his family.

Mellow was sentenced to 16 months in prison in November, 2012. He pleaded guilty in May, 2012 as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
