MIFFLINBURG -- A teenager from our area won a national competition for the second time in a row. If you were watching the Falcons/Seahawks game last night, you may have seen the girl from Mifflinburg on the field after she won the NFL's Punt, Pass and Kick competition.
It was back to school for Kayla Kline. The 14-year-old freshman spent the day taking midterms at Mifflinburg Area High School. But just 24 hours earlier, she was on a football field being recognized at the Atlanta Falcons/Seattle Seahawks divisional playoff game. Kayla was the winner of the NFL's Punt, Pass and Kick competition.
"There are hundreds of thousands of kids in the whole country that do this. I was the top one in the whole nation in my age group," Kayla said.
It is actually the second year in a row Kayla won this competition. She punted, passed and kicked a football 351 feet.
"It feels great because I knew there were a lot of good girls this year in my age group that I had to compete against. I just tried my best and I won," Kayla said.
The Mifflinburg Area High School principal says Kayla is not only a good role model on the field, she is a great student, and the school district is proud to have her represent it.
"We're quite proud that she was able to accomplish this and for a small school like our own it is quite exciting," Principal Glenn Fogel said.
Kayla and her family spent the weekend in Atlanta. She and 40 other kids competed in several rounds before they made it to the finals.
"There's a local and then a sectional and the team championship was at the Eagles for me and then the nationals at the Falcons," Kayla said.
Kayla plans on trying out again next year and going for three in a row.
