SCRANTON -- It’s almost 2013, and people across our area spent some of their last moments of 2012 getting ready to celebrate the new year.

It was a busy day in Lackawanna County as we found people stocking up for all of the party essentials.

“I am doing some last minute shopping, because of the snow you usually run out of things,” said John Napolitano of Newfoundland.

Many, including John Napolitano are a day behind, because of Saturday's snowstorm. Inside Schiffs along North Main Avenue, there were plenty of happy shoppers getting ready for their New Year's Eve Celebrations, purchasing various meats and other party essentials.

At Gerrity's in Scranton there is one time of year when they bring the seafood outside all in preparation for New Year's day.

“The weather is fantastic for selling fish. It's nice and cold. You don't have to worry about putting ice on it. It keeps real fresh out here, very pleased with the weather!” said Al Laluna of Gerrity’s.

Linda Ricker of Scranton said she always makes an annual trip to the outdoor fish stand.

“I'm buying shrimp. I always buy shrimp every year for New Years and Christmas, and later on we are going to come over and get crab legs,” said Ricker.

If seafood isn’t your thing, maybe you would prefer an adult beverage to ring in the next 365 days. If so, the Wine and Spirits shop along Meadow Avenue in Scranton has just what you need no matter what your New Year's Eve party plans might include.

“Well this is the day before New Year's Eve, so I am up to relax. I don't care about other people, I am just getting some nice wine for myself and my husband,” said Rosebary McGuigan of Scranton.

Of course there will be many celebrations throughout our area Monday night including "First Night" in Scranton. Pottsville will feature the Yuengling beer bottle drop, and Beaver Town drops their famous beaver just to name a few.
