CARBONDALE - A police officer in Carbondale says a trail of footprints in the snow led him to a suspect in a string of vehicle break-ins.

Thomas Everett, 23, of Carbondale was arrested early Thursday morning at a house in the city. He's now charged with 18 counts of Theft from a Motor Vehicle and 18 counts of Receiving Stolen Property.

Patrolman Jeff Arthur said he noticed something unusual about a parked car. He says he then followed a trail of footprints for more than a mile, and ended up at the house where Everett was staying.

Police say Everett is not the man shown in a bank surveillance picture that police circulated on Wednesday.

Carbondale police said they expect to file more charges against Everett, and they expect to charge other people in connection with the recent rash of vehicle break-ins.
