KRESGEVILLE -- At Haydt's Meat Market in Kresgeville, workers processed about 10 deer killed on opening day of rifle deer season.
The day was clear and dry, but for those who work at the market, it was not the most successful opening day.
They normally have about 30 to 40 deer to work on.
"Normally we have a lot more, so it could be the weather with the storm coming, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day," said Jamie Rockwell of Haydt's.
Hunters also said they are hoping for snow, which they said makes getting a deer easier. Milder weather makes for harder hunting.
"It was pretty poor, I was out and we didn't see many deer, not much movement," said Allen Orlick, who works at Haydt's and is also a hunter.
"It's better when it's snowy and cold especially, when it's cold the deer have to get up and mvoe around a little bit and shake off the cold, they won't lay around, and they won't hide in the brush and with the snow on the ground, it will be easier to track them if you're lucky enough to shoot one," said Mark Haydt.
Snow may be good for the hunters, but it is also good for business at Haydt's.
"We get busy with the people who are stocking up for the storm as well as for the deer season, they're bringing in more deer because it's easier to find the deer in the woods," said Rockwell.
Haydt's Meat Market participates in 'Share the Harvest,' a program that allows hunters to donate deer to local food banks and shelters.
