PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- The head of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is leaving to take a job in Connecticut, but said he will miss Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Bobby Soper is credited with making the Plains Township casino the place it is today, taking what was a racing facility and turning it into the state`s first casino, then expanding it to the half a million square foot facility.

"I think the most memorable thing is seeing all the faces of our team, of seeing all the blood, sweat, and tears of what went in to making this place what it is today," said Soper.

Soper said he remembers back in 2006 when the casino first opened and when he and others unveiled table games in 2010.

There is more planned too.

In 2013, the Mohegan Sun convention center and 238-room hotel is slated to open.

Soper said the officials at the casino will no doubt continue to expand.

"We wanted to make this a place that provides a great value but also takes people out of their everyday life, and I think we`ve been able to accomplish that, and hopefully we`ll even do more," said Soper.

His new role at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut begins October 22.

Soper said he is ready to hit the ground running.

The flagship casino there is reportedly eliminating hundreds of jobs in the next few months.

I don`t expect to change anything immediately, but it is a great operation, one of the best in the world, one of the most beautiful in the world," said Soper.

The current assistant general manager at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, Mike Bean, will be taking Soper's place.
