UNION COUNTY — State police in Milton responded to two separate deadly crashes within a few hours of one another.

The first happened in Buffalo Township around 11 p.m. on Route 45 and Johnson Mill Road Saturday night.

State police say Rodney Merrifield, 24,  of Avis died when he attempted to turn onto Johnson Mill Road and turned into the path of an oncoming car. His passenger was taken to the hospital.

Police say the driver of the second car, Ross Jarrett, 67, of Mifflinburg and his passengers were taken to the hospital. Two of his passengers were 10-year-old girl and a 1-year-old girl. State police say they are continuing the investigation.

The second crash happened in Gregg Township around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

State police say Jacob Parkes, 21, of Lewisburg died at the scene. While driving, he lost control on a left curve on Route 15 and his jeep rolled over.

The jeep also sideswiped a warning signal for a traffic light ahead, this took down the utility pole.

Investigators say PPL was on scene Sunday morning and officials say Route 15 is closed in that area until a new pole can be put up.
