KELLY TOWNSHIP -- The vines have been planted for about three years, and now it is time to enjoy the wine. Fero Vineyards opened in Kelly Township, which is near Lewisburg, six weeks ago. The winery was built on a 200-year-old family farm in Union County.

"I started by planting different varieties of grapes with different root stocks. I did testing on their ripeness and wine making ability. We came up with what we thought was best for this area," said Chuck Zaleski.

Chuck and Daneen Zaleski said they always wanted to have a winery. They planted more than 13,000 vines, and hope to produce 7,000 gallons of wine this year.

"We determined that we should have dry and sweet wines for all the public so you have a variety of choices," said Daneen.

Fero Vineyards sells eight different varieties of dry and sweet wine. People can go taste for free.

In addition to the tasting room, Fero Vineyards has an outdoor patio and an event room.

"Large tastings, pairing with food, and just your basic receptions and bridal showers. That kind of thing," said Daneen.

The owners said business has been good.

"They love it. They come in, sit down and have a glass of wine. They meet new friends. It's been very well received and everyone loves the wine," said Chuck.

Fero Vineyards is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the intersection of JPM and Zeigler Roads near Lewisburg.
