SCRANTON -- Runners laced up their shoes in memory of a former boxing coach in Lackawanna County.

The twentieth annual Paul "Hook" O`Malley 5k run/walk against cancer was held Sunday at McDade Park.

O`Malley spent his life training amateur and professional boxers in the area before losing his battle to cancer.

The event in Scranton is organized by Hook`s son, Lackawanna County Commissioner Pat O`Malley.

“It feels like my father was here yesterday. This is the place that he trained. He believed in the physical and mental well-being of the youth in his community and he meant everybody. He trained people from 8 to 80 years old, just in the art of self defense.”
