GLENBURN TOWNSHIP -- A groundbreaking event took place Monday for a conservation group in Lackawanna County.

The Countryside Conservancy broke ground Monday morning on a trail renovation project along the old "Northern Electric Street Railway" trolley line in Glenburn Township.

The group's goal is to create a three-mile, handicap-accessible trail between Clarks Summit and Dalton.

"Connect other trails to the (Lackawanna) state park, maybe even down to Scranton to provide safe, beautiful walking, biking, dog walking," said Abby Peck, an organizer.

Construction on the trail will begin in the spring with funding coming from a state grant worth nearly $600,000.
