LOWER TOWAMENSING TOWNSHIP -- State police filed charges against a man for stealing thousands of dollars worth of copper in Carbon County.

Troopers said they discovered the copper when officers pulled over Robert Fisher, 47, of Bethlehem, as he was driving near Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township around 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators said several pieces of cut copper were found in Fisher's car.  PPL later contacted police and reported 600 feet of wire and seven copper fuses were stolen from a substation on Gap Road.

The estimated value is $24,900.
