SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT -- A man from Williamsport died Monday after an accident while water skiing in upstate New York.

State police said Doctor Christopher Tobiasz, 57, of South Williamsport, was water skiing with his family on the Saint Lawrence River Monday afternoon.

Troopers said Dr. Tobiasz was attempting to climb into the boat from the water when his leg was slashed by the boat's propeller.  Authorities said the family attempted to try and stop the bleeding as the boat docked at Chippewa Bay.

Dr. Tobiasz was rushed to E.J. Nobel Hospital in Alexandria Bay where he was later pronounced dead.

State police said alcohol was not a factor and no charges or arrests have been made.

An autopsy will be performed by the Jefferson County coroner.
