DICKSON CITY -- PennDOT officials first put out their warning a few months ago. While Pennsylvania's oldest part of Interstate 81, which runs through Lackawanna County, is being redone, things may be a little messy.

One of the big parts of that renovation project is repairs to a bridge that serves as an on and off ramp at exit 190, which leads to Main Avenue in Scranton and Dickson City.

So, PennDOT officials say the ramps on and off of I-81 south in that area will be shut down within the next few days.

PennDOT's goal is to have the ramp renovation finished before the holiday season, when the busy intersection gets even busier. So, PennDOT officials drivers should plan for two I-81 south ramps to be closed for at least three months.

While drivers say the closures will be an inconvenience, business owners are afraid it will close them off to customers this fall.

"It hasn't affected us too much now with the back and forth, them closing ramps and stuff, but if it's the ramp right by me all the time, it is going to affect our business and it's going to affect how we get to our customers for deliveries and stuff," said Carol Sohns of Main Street Bagel.

"People are going to have to drive to the next exit to even get to Dickson City. Main Street is already congested as it is," said Dan Richardson of Clarks Summit.
