SCRANTON -- Police said a University of Scranton student lured a cat and stabbed it several times, killing it.

Several witnesses told police they saw Peter Freshour stab the cat Saturday afternoon near his home along Taylor Avenue in Scranton.

According to officers, Freshour continued to attack the cat even as it attempted to walk away. People who live nearby said the cat was a stray, but friendly.

Police found the dead cat in the garbage and said Freshour admitted killing it.

He has been charged with cruelty to animals.
