WILKES-BARRE -- A number of crimes remain unsolved in Wilkes-Barre, starting with the well-publicized April shooting death of Tyler Winstead.
Four months have passed since Winstead was shot. And police still haven't identified the suspected shooter to the public. After the shooting, Winstead's friend and neighbor was brought into court but police never said why.
Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said she`s well aware there are plenty of rumors about what happened that night on Hill Street, the night Tyler Winstead was shot and killed, but she says by law and by judge's orders, she`s not allowed to comment on them.
Two months later, another shooting took place under the South Street Bridge. Two 17-year-old boys were shot; one in the leg and the other in the back. Police have yet to arrest anyone in that shooting.
Less than a month after that shooting under the bridge, another man was shot in the head in broad daylight on Jay Street. The shooter remains on the run.
Rich Griffin lives near the Jay Street shooting scene and doesn't think police will be able to solve all the crimes.
"I would love to see them all, yeah. But how many (are) you going to catch? How much crime has there been in the area," asked Griffin. "Every day you read about and see on the news someone got stabbed, someone got shot. What the hell (are) you going to do?"
And that brings us to the latest high profile unsolved crime here in the Diamond City: it was two weeks ago that Rebecca McCallick was struck and killed outside of her apartment on Hazle Street.
Police have just released a new picture of what they believe is the pick up truck that hit McCallick.
A $5000 reward is now being offered for any information on the driver of that truck.
Rebecca's friends continue to plead for the driver to turn himself in.
"I really hope they come forward and own up to what they`ve done," said Maureen Capella. "They made a huge mistake and obviously they will have consequences but it`s better than not knowing what happened."
