SCRANTON -- An eight-month-old child from Scranton is dead and police are still investigating what happened.
Police were called to the scene on Eynon Street Friday night. Scranton police say the child was found at the apartment home around 5 p.m.
Neighbors are shocked and say the home where the child was living attracted a lot of police activity.
"I just feel really bad for those people who lost their baby like that," said a neighbor.
Caution tape still surrounds the apartment on Eynon Street on the city`s west side where police say an eight month old baby boy was found not breathing Friday.
"That`s terrible, that`s terrible," said Greg Mallon, who lives a few doors away from the apartment home.
The eight-month old was then taken to Moses Taylor Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Hours later, a police car was still at the home which is now considered an active crime scene.
One neighbor who lives on the block refused to go on camera, but told Newswatch 16 around 5:00 Friday night, she saw a young woman carrying a baby outside of that home into an ambulance. At that time, several other people were standing by, visibly upset.
Many other neighbors throughout this block also did not want to show their face on camera.
But they told Newswatch 16 the block is changing and that particular home was part of the problem.
"I have seen a lot of cops there and the one night they woke me up at two in the morning. There was some kind of fight going on," said a neighbor who lives near the apartment home.
"There is a lot of traffic at night with cars playing music and people stopping at the house for brief moments of time, an hour or so then leaving," said another neighbor.
"In the last few weeks, I`ve been seeing high traffic of people coming in and out of the house. In the morning when I leave for work , like 5:00 a.m., the lights are always on. People are coming and going," said Mallon, "It looks like a drug house. That`s basically what it is."
Scranton police say they have been called to the home before but wouldn`t say how often or how recently.
An autopsy was done on the eight month old child Saturday afternoon.
Officials expect to release the autopsy results on Monday.
So far no charges have been filed.
