MOOSIC -- Die-hard baseball fans, Tom and Tyler Granahan, were taken aback by what PNC Field in Moosic looks like now.

"It's a mess! No, I think it's going along good, I didn't like the upper deck on it anyhow," said Tom Granahan

That upper deck which stuck out beyond the trees on Montage Mountain is almost gone.

Construction crews started tearing off the top of PNC Field back in April.  In about two weeks, officials say the stadium will have its one level look.

"It will be nice to be able to walk all the way around and see the whole thing, I like to watch the game from the outfield anyway," said Granahan.

Earlier this year there was concern over whether or not the Yankees would play here next season. Lackawanna County commissioners reached a last-minute deal to sell the team and secure the funds for construction.

Demolition at PNC Field won't be done for another two or three weeks, but the construction manager said the new steel will be put in even before all of this is taken down

"We'll be creating the new outfield wall shortly, it will actually be the same distance as it was before but it will be different materials on it, different kind of padding, there will be different places where the new bullpens will be at, it will really be much different than it was before," said John Baer, construction manager.

Baer said work is on track for the new PNC Field to be complete by opening day next year.
