WILKES-BARRE -- In Wilkes-Barre Township another outdoor event opened Tuesday: an outdoor farmers market at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Some shoppers, like Rose Hanas, said they like the spread-out atmosphere of the arena market.

"I can get around and it's nice fresh air and you usually get fresh vegetables so that's why you like it," said Rose Hanas, of Wilkes-Barre.

The organizers of the farmers market at the arena said they expect more venders to show up and more people to show up as the weeks go on because of the convenient free parking.

"It's a great location and parking. That's a key. There's not much parking down there so we sell small amounts. Maybe people will come here and buy more volume. It will be interesting to see what happens," said Paul Brace, a Brace's Orchard vendor.

"I think your parking is your major advantage. It's hard to find a parking space driving around the square.  This seems to be a lot easier access," said Patti Zak, of Wilkes-Barre.

Just in case a show happens to be on Tuesday inside the arena, organizers say the 5:00 p.m. closing time will allow everyone time to pack up and leave so the show crowd can arrive.
