The makers of Quaker Real Medleys oatmeal say this new product is a quick way to have a hot breakfast.

But how does it taste? We went to the Poconos to find out.

Our taste testers were from a group of retired teachers which meets twice a year in the Poconos to discuss education issues.

They know the importance of a good breakfast.

So we brought Real Medleys to their morning gathering.

The single serving cups of oatmeal come in four flavors: Peach Almond, Cherry Pistachio, Summer Berry and Apple Walnut.

We got a few positive comments on the Apple Walnut.

"It has a fruity flavor," said Debbie Booth of Saylorsburg. "You can taste the nuts with the oatmeal."

But our nutrition-conscious tasters didn't like what they saw on the label.

Kathleen Scagliotta of East Stroudsburg said, "There's quite a bit of sugar content in both of them, so I'm not too thrilled about that. But on the go, I think it would be great."

Each single-serving cup has between 250 and 290 calories, 14 to 22 grams of sugar, and 6 to 9 grams of protein.

The Cherry Pistachio flavor tasted good enough to convert this dubious taste tester.

"Excellent. I really liked it," said Sal Pappalardo of Stroud Township, who doesn't usually enjoy oatmeal.

Some oatmeal aficionados said otherwise.

Jim Werkheiser of Marshalls Creek said, "No, no good. I love oatmeal. I have oatmeal at home frequently. But the texture of this just doesn't cut it."

Marie Lohman of East Stroudsburg agreed. "I think the concept is great. It's fast, it's easy. But i have to agree with Jim. I didn't care for the texture."
