When the natural gas industry came to town, so did jobs and in most areas, a boost to the local economy.
An industry group grabbed shotguns and took aim Friday at helping an organization that helps others in Lycoming County.
Michael Arispe feels right at home firing at moving targets.
Arispe is from Texas. Nowadays he lives and works in the Williamsport area for the natural gas industry. So do the hundred or so other people at a charity clay shooting tournament in Sullivan County called "Bustin' Clays for United Way."
"There's a number of industry personnel in the Williamsport, Lycoming Clinton area, we felt we needed to get together, pool our resources," said Arispe who works for Anadarko Petroleum.
Each team, 25 in all, represents a company in the natural gas industry. Most are new to the area, but David Guild grew up in this area and has found work with Stallion Oilfield Services.
"It's a really good feeling, to be recognized in the community and we're proud of it, really are, to be part of something so big," said Guild.
While the gas industry may be hitting its mark, there is still a growing need in the community to help organizations that help others, according to United Way volunteers who said they appreciate all these companies have done and will do through events like this.
"This industry which is now part of our community, without them we would not have ended up the campaign where we did which was over $1.5 million last year," said United Way volunteer Virgil Probasco.
Organizers said the charity tournament raised about $10,000 for the Lycoming County United Way.
