Hazleton police, state troopers and the Luzerne County District Attorney's office want some answers about the death of an 89-year-old woman.

Police are not calling the death of  Eleanor Marcinko of Hazleton suspicious, but investigators want some answers.

The ordeal started inside of the woman's home this week. Her son and daughter live with her. Ed Marcinko said his mother fell off a couch and was found laying on the floor.

"She might have had bumped her arm or leg. I didn't see. She may have had a mark on her breast, that's the only thing that I saw on her," Marcinko said of his mother.

According to investigators Eleanor Marcinko was taken  to Hazleton General Hospital. Apparently the ambulance crew saw something that troubled them. They called city police, according to Police Chief Frank DeAndrea.

"They had an 89-year-old female who had some injuries which raised to the magnitude that the police should look into it. They had to life flight her down to Lehigh Valley and the following morning we were notified by the coroner's office that she passed away," explained Chief DeAndrea.

He added that his criminal investigators, state troopers and an expert on the elderly from the district attorney's  office are investigating.

"When you get into some unique instance of some elderly individual who has some wounds, injuries and ends up dying you look to an expert who does these kind of cases," Chief DeAndrea added.

The woman's son said  he welcomes the police investigation into his mother's death. "It is very important that when someone dies that the police look into it what happened," Marcinko added.

There is no word when police will know how and why Eleanor Marcinko of Hazleton died.
