    “The Professor”, Russell Johnson Dies at 89

    A Hollywood actor who was born in Luzerne County and played “the professor” on Gilligan’s Island has died. ABC News is reporting that Russell Johnson passed away today of kidney failure at his home in Washington State. Johnson was born in Ashley, PA. He is probably best known for his role as Professor Roy Hinkley on Gilligan’s Island in the 1960’s. Johnson also appeared in several movies and television shows including Lassie and Gunsmoke. Russell Johnson was 89 years old.

    A homecoming of a different sort in Schuylkill County. After a year overseas, friends and family celebrated the return of a soldier from Schuylkill Haven. Specialist Kyleigh Rauenzahn, received a hero’s welcome yesterday. Rauenzahn is a member of an MP company based out of Willow Grove. She was in Afghanistan doing detainee operations.
