  • Firefighters From Two Counties Fight Flames

    HAZLE TOWNSHIP — Fire crews from two counties battled flames at a house in Luzerne County Monday night. Responders said flames tore through the home along Getz Drive near Hazleton. It sparked around 8 p.m. Crews from both Luzerne and Schuylkill Counties were called in to fight the fire. Firefighters tell Newswatch 16 that one man lives in the house but wasn’t home.  No one was hurt. A state police fire marshal will investigate what started the fire.

  • Man Uses Box Cutter in Turkey Hill Hold Up

    WILKES-BARRE — A man is on the run after a late Monday night hold up in Wilkes-Barre. Authorities said Turkey Hill Minit Mart on Blackman Street was targeted just after 11 p.m. Officer said the used a box-cutter to hold up the store then ran away. Police have not said what was taken.

  • 3rd Annual International Fest Set to Kick Off

    WRIGHT TOWNSHIP — Dozens of elementary school students helped jump-start the 3rd annual International Festival. Kids from St. Jude’s School held a food drive Wednesday afternoon at the church along South Mountain Boulevard in Mountain Top. Folks who attend this weekend’s International Festival are also asked to bring canned goods to help those in need. The festival begins next Saturday at 4:00.

  • Meth Bust Leads to Arrest

    NANTICOKE — Police in Luzerne County said officers shut down a drug lab on Wednesday. Nanticoke Police believe a man was cooking methamphetamine in the garage of a home on West Main Street. The bust was made on Wednesday afternoon. Investigators said they found out about the dangerous operation from an informant.  Police said they found meth and heroin on the suspected drug maker at the time of his arrest.   • Four Charged, Accused of Armed Home Break-in

    BERWICK — Four men face robbery charges for an armed home invasion in Columbia County. Berwick Police arrested James Hopper, Jack Defranco, Shawn Davis and Martin Addison on Wednesday. Officers said the men used a sawed-off shotgun during a break-in in March at a home on North Chestnut Street.  Police said the men were after cash and drugs. All four face a slew of charges and were arraigned later on Wednesday.

    Car Slams Into Ice Cream Production Facility

    MOOSIC — A car smashed into an ice cream business Wednesday morning in Lackawanna County. Authorities said the wreck happened around 6:00 a.m. at the facility on Rocky Glen Road in Moosic. The car crashed into the office portion of MIA Products, a business that makes ice cream.  The driver of the car was taken to the hospital. Officials have not said if that building will open on Wednesday.

  • Firefighters Battle Early Morning Flames

    LANSFORD — Fire crews battled flames Wednesday morning at a home in Carbon County. Responders said flames sparked at the home on West Snyder Avenue in Lansford around 1:30 a.m. Flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the home.  Firefighters report no one was hurt. Authorities have not said what started the fire.
