  • Freedom Ride Supports Veterans

    SCRANTON — Veterans and wounded veterans who want to raise awareness for our men and women who serve rolled into Nay Aug Park in Scranton on Thursday. The “Freedom Ride” Began at the Carbondale Armory and stretched about 20 miles.  The ride stopped in Blakely Park, then the Military Readiness Center in Scranton, and finally finished in Nay Aug Park. There is another ride through central Pennsylvania set for Friday.

    VFW Post Gutted By Flames

    LOCK HAVEN — Thursday night flames destroyed a VFW post in Clinton County. Fire and smoke poured from the roof of the VFW Post 1630 on East Church Street in Lock Haven. Authorities received the call around 11:30 p.m. when someone passing by noticed the smoke.  Firefighters believe no one was inside at the time of the fire. Firefighters have not said what started this huge blaze.

    Woman Accused of Stealing Thousands From Post Office

    CASTANEA — A former postmaster in Clinton County is accused of stealing thousands from the post office she managed. Authorities believe Macey Geyer, 41, from Castanea took more than $9,000 from the Castanea Post Office since she began working there in 2007 The United States Attorney’s Office tells Newswatch 16 a plea agreement is in place and it is awaiting approval by a judge.

  • “Script King” Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges

    STROUDSBURG — Federal agents named him the “Script King,” and on Thursday, John Romangnolo pleaded guilty in Monroe County. Romagnolo, from Cresco, was accused of flooding pharmacies in the Stroudsburg area with hundreds of fake prescriptions for painkilers then had a bunch of dealers sell them. The story was first reported back in March of last year, when the prescription drug ring from the Poconos to New York was busted. Romagnolo pleaded guilty Thursday to two felony charges.     UPDATE: Two in Custody Following Police Standoff

    FRACKVILLE — A nearly three-hour standoff in Schuylkill County ended peacefully Thursday morning. Police surrounded the home on South Fourth Street in Frackville late Wednesday night.  Officers were trying to arrest Steven Androshick, 49, for failing to appear in court. They then found out another wanted man, Harry Baney, 28, was also inside.       WILKES-BARRE — Wilkes-Barre firefighters and ambulance workers went head to head in a burger battle. They met at Smokey Bones Bar and Fire Grill near the city.  The two groups ate as many burgers as they could in a timed relay.     Supervisor, Police Commissioner Accused of Intimidating Witness

    WESTFALL TOWNSHIP — An elected official in Pike County is locked up accused of perjury and intimidating a witness. Authorities arrested Lawrence Flansburgh, 54 on Wednesday. He is a supervisor in Westfall Township and police commissioner for the Eastern Pike Regional Police. Police have not told us what circumstances led to the charges.

  • Meat Business Engulfed by Flames

    STEVENSVILLE — Firefighters are investigating Thursday morning flames that damaged a business in Bradford County . Responders said the fire sparked around 4:30 a.m. at Dotti-Lou’s Packing Company on Route 706 in Stevensville. The fire was discovered by gas company workers who helped the owner get some belongings out of the burning building. The workers also helped to control the natural gas to the building. There is no word on what started the flames.

    SCRANTON — Scranton police now say they have a man in custody accused of stabbing a teenager in Scranton. Police say, Garfield Alexander was taken into custody after 11 a.m. Wednesday in Forty Fort. A fight between a couple led to a Wednesday morning stabbing across the street from a Scranton school. Authorities said a 17-year-old boy was stabbed when he stepped in to protect his mother from a man near South Scranton Intermediate on Slocum Avenue just before 3:30 […]

  • Police: Parents Accused of Dealing Drugs, Mistreating Children

    PITTSTON — Two people are locked up in Luzerne County for allegedly putting their children in danger. Authorities said Linda Ortiz and Jose Rosado had heroin and marijuana in their home in Pittston in April. Police said the pair had no food in the home for a 9-month-old and a 1-year-old. Ortiz and Rosado face drug and child endangerment charges.
