    Crash Shuts Down I-81 During Morning Rush Hour

    DUPONT — Part of Interstate 81 in Luzerne County was shut down briefly for a car wreck Wednesday morning. The crash happened on I-81 south between the Dupont Exit (175B) and the Pittston Exit (175A) around 9:30 a.m. Crews had to shut down both lanes of the interstate to clean up.  The closure caused traffic to back up over a mile.  The road reopened within a half hour but traffic was still slowed in the area of the crash.     ORANGEVILLE — Flames chased a family into the bitter cold Wednesday morning in Columbia County. Crews rushed to the home on Main Street in Orangeville just after midnight.  Firefighters said the flames started in the chimney and spread to the rest of the place, which the fire chief said was recently remodeled.     Man Accused of Assaulting Two Women

    EAST STROUDSBURG — State police in Monroe County arrested a man after a break-in at a home in East Stroudsburg Sunday afternoon. Troopers said Justin Navarro, of East Stroudsburg, made his way into a home on Brush Drive around 4:00 p.m.  Authorities said Navarro then proceeded to beat up two women, ages 24 and 46.  He then ran from the home.  Police have not released the current condition of the victims.     Council Says Police Department Could Shut Down

    LAFLIN — A community in Luzerne County might be getting rid of its police force. Laflin’s council voted Monday to have the borough’s lawyer draw up an ordinance to close the department.  The Laflin Police Department is made up of three full-time and five part-time officers. People can voice their concerns at the next Laflin Borough Council meeting December 8th.

    EXETER — Police arrested two men during a raid at a home in Luzerne County late Tuesday night. Newswatch 16 found Exeter Police and a state police hazmat team at a home in Birchwood Estates in Exeter.  Investigators said they served a search warrant at the home earlier in the evening, looking for a man wanted on felony charges.     Man Cuffed After Stabbing Outside Mini Mart

    HAZLE TOWNSHIP — A stabbing at a mini mart in Luzerne County has a man locked up Tuesday morning. According to authorities, the attack happened at Turkey Hill on Route 309 near Hazleton just after 11:00 Monday night. Officers said Chistopher Ringlaben, 21, of Hazleton stabbed William Flachsenhaar in the arm during a fight.  Witnesses stopped Ringlaben from leaving until officers arrived. The Hazleton man was charged with assault.

    SCRANTON — A restaurant in Scranton put on an Italian-style dinner to help a woman who was hurt in a car wreck. The “Miracles for Maria” pasta dinner was held Sunday for Maria Baldassari at the Villa Maria Restaurant.  Baldassari was injured in a car crash about seven months ago and is now confined to a wheelchair.   • Bowling a Strike for Epilepsy Awareness

    WILKES-BARRE — People were knocking down pins at Chacko’s Bowling Center in Wilkes-Barre on Sunday all in the name of epilepsy awareness. The 7th annual Bowl-a-Thon was held to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania. The foundation raises awareness through educational programs for teachers, law enforcement and any other groups that may come in contact with epilepsy patients. Sunday’s event in Wilkes-Barre coincides with National Epilepsy Awareness Month.
