    SCRANTON — About 1,000 people attended a boxing event in the Electric City Saturday night in a new venue: The Mall at Steamtown food court.     Wilkes-Barre School District Teacher Charged With DUI

    WILKES-BARRE — A teacher in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District is now charged for allegedly driving drunk. According to court paperwork, Christopher Gray was charged on Friday. Earlier in March, police began investigating Gray after he crashed his car on reliance drive.   Court paperwork claims Gray had a blood-alcohol level over 0.10. Gray is a teacher at Dodson Elementary and the girls basketball coach at Meyers High School.

    Tractor-Trailer Wreck Slows Traffic on I-81

    WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP — An early morning big rig wreck on Interstate 81 in Luzerne County slowed traffic for about an hour. The crash happened in the northbound lanes near mile marker 168 in Wilkes-Barre Township around 3 a.m. Thursday morning. Officials believe a minivan smashed into a tractor-trailer.  The van was severely damaged.  Authorities have not said if anyone was hurt. One lane was closed while crews cleaned up the mess on I-81 north.  The lane opened around 5:15 a.m.  


    Former Correctional Officer Accused of Striking Inmate

    SCRANTON — Charges were filed Wednesday against a former correctional officer who is accused of beating up an inmate at the Lackawanna County Prison. Nicholas Hughes, 23, was charged with assault and harassment Prosecutors tell us Hughes hit Cloward Grant while he was restrained to a chair at the prison on North Washington Avenue in Scranton in August. Officials said the inmate from Scranton had a cut over his eye and needed medical attention.  He was in prison for a 2013 robbery.

    Crash Shuts Down I-81 During Morning Rush Hour

    DUPONT — Part of Interstate 81 in Luzerne County was shut down briefly for a car wreck Wednesday morning. The crash happened on I-81 south between the Dupont Exit (175B) and the Pittston Exit (175A) around 9:30 a.m. Crews had to shut down both lanes of the interstate to clean up.  The closure caused traffic to back up over a mile.  The road reopened within a half hour but traffic was still slowed in the area of the crash.   • Firefighters Fight Flames in Freezing Temperatures

    ORANGEVILLE — Flames chased a family into the bitter cold Wednesday morning in Columbia County. Crews rushed to the home on Main Street in Orangeville just after midnight.  Firefighters said the flames started in the chimney and spread to the rest of the place, which the fire chief said was recently remodeled.     Man Accused of Assaulting Two Women

    EAST STROUDSBURG — State police in Monroe County arrested a man after a break-in at a home in East Stroudsburg Sunday afternoon. Troopers said Justin Navarro, of East Stroudsburg, made his way into a home on Brush Drive around 4:00 p.m.  Authorities said Navarro then proceeded to beat up two women, ages 24 and 46.  He then ran from the home.  Police have not released the current condition of the victims.     Council Says Police Department Could Shut Down

    LAFLIN — A community in Luzerne County might be getting rid of its police force. Laflin’s council voted Monday to have the borough’s lawyer draw up an ordinance to close the department.  The Laflin Police Department is made up of three full-time and five part-time officers. People can voice their concerns at the next Laflin Borough Council meeting December 8th.
