    Waking up to Snow

    DUNMORE — A lot of people in the area are waking up to a coating of white stuff Friday morning. The snow fell in most areas overnight. The O’Neill Highway in Dunmore was covered in slush around 1:00 a.m. PennDOT crews have been busy plowing and treating the roads. Many schools that were delayed are now closing.     Despite the fact that there really aren’t any “home” teams playing in this Super Bowl, there are still some super fans in the area who are counting the hours until the big game. Newswatch 16’s Ryan Leckey found some of those fans who are gearing up for Sunday.

    Puppy Found Dumped on Side of the Road

    WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP — Police in Lycoming County are looking for whoever dumped a puppy on the side of the road. Some people might find these images disturbing. Police said they found a nine-month-old pit bull terrier mix wrapped in a flannel shirt on Sulphur Springs Road near Elimsport on Thursday. The dog is now being cared for at an animal shelter. Anyone with information is asked to call police in Lycoming County.

    Basketball Fans Getting Their Pink On

    WRIGHT TOWNSHIP — Fans heading to a high school basketball game in Luzerne County made sure to get their “pink” on. There was a “pink out” game at the Crestwood Hazleton girls game in Mountain Top Thursday night. Before the game, the varsity girls honored  cancer survivors, those who are currently fighting cancer, and those who have lost their battles. Money raised from selling crafts and snacks also helped Relay for Life teams in Luzerne County.

    Thieves Steal Motor Oil From Walmart

    KELLY TOWNSHIP — State police said two men stole motor oil from a Walmart in Union County. Authorities said the theft happened Wednesday at the store near Lewisburg when one man filled a shopping cart with gallon jugs of oil and then pushed the cart out of the store without paying.     UPDATE: Deadly Crash on Route 11 Near Bloomsburg

    SCOTT TOWNSHIP — The driver of a pickup truck died in a head-on crash Thursday morning in Columbia County. Police say a bread truck veered into oncoming traffic on Route 11 near Bloomsburg and hit the pickup around 6:15 a.m. Officers tell us the driver of the pickup, Michael Moskovich of Bloomsburg, died at the hospital. The other driver, Joshua Sietsma of Dalton, was thrown from his truck and is in the hospital.

    Business Robbed at Gunpoint

    CASTANEA TOWNSHIP — Police are looking for a thief that robbed a business in Clinton County. Police said a man with a gun entered Fuel On in Castanea Township, near Lock Haven around 10:30 p.m. Monday, and demanded money before he fled the scene. Police said the man was dressed in dark colored clothing and was approximately 5’8″ with a medium build. Police would like anyone has any information regarding the alleged armed robbery to contact them.

    Homeless Man Led Police on Chase After Alleged Robbery

    WILKES-BARRE — Police took a homeless man into custody after an alleged armed robbery in Luzerne County. Authorities said Matthew Vantine, 27, led them on a chase after he allegedly robbed the Turkey Hill on N. Pennsylvania Avenue in Wilkes-Barre just before 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday. According to police, Vantine was violent and fought with officers while being taken into custody. Vantine is charged with robbery, aggravated assault and other related charges.

    Shots Fired at Person, Home

    HAZLETON — Police in Luzerne County are investigating after shots were fired. Authorities said five shots were fired into a home in the area of the 100 block of East 5th Street in Hazleton around 6:00 a.m. Monday. Police said shots were also fired at a male victim in the area. No injuries were reported. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, contact Hazleton Police.
