    Deadly Fire in the Poconos

    POLK TOWNSHIP – A man is dead after a fire in Polk Township, according to the coroner. Flames broke out at the home on Mountain Road in Polk Township around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. The coroner’s office identified the victim as William Berry, 69. Officials said he died from smoke inhalation. Two others lived there. One was taken to the hospital. There is no word on the cause.

    Family of Six Displaced After Fire

    WILLIAMSPORT — A family of six is staying elsewhere after a fire broke out Monday evening in Williamsport. Firefighters were called to the home on Memorial Avenue just before 8 p.m. in the city. Investigators said they the fire started in the kitchen and spread to the second and third floors. Fire officials believe the fire started after food was left unattended on the stove but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

    Police: Man Admits to Setting Two Fires, Upset City Pool not Open

    SCRANTON — Police in Scranton said a man has admitted to setting two brush fires. Officers arrested Michael Wademan, 24, of Scranton. Authorities believe Wademan started two fires Monday in the city’s south side. One near Connell Park and the other near Skyview Apartments.     Man Charged with Stealing Thousands of Dollars from Company

    JESSUP — In Lackawanna County, Police in Jessup said they’ve arrested a man from West Pittston on theft charges. Officers say Doyle Lewis, 42, stole more that $67,000 while he handled loss prevention for the Compass Group, a cafeteria service that services TMG Health in Jessup. Authorities claimed Lewis failed to make 41 cash deposits at a bank for the company in Lackawanna County.

    WHITE MILLS —People remembered a young boy who died from a gunshot wound over the weekend. Folks gathered to remember Hunter Pedersen. The ten year-old boy died at his grandmother’s house in Pike County on Saturday after a gun his uncle allegedly was showing him went off.     MESHOPPEN — State police said that the body found in the Susquehanna River in Wyoming County earlier this week is Thomas Yates of New York. Officials said Yates’ body was pulled from the water in Meshoppen Thursday afternoon after people on a passing train spotted the body. Health officials said the potential exposures could have occurred at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg and Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.     Homicide Suspect Captured In NYC

    SHENANDOAH — Luis Ramos was arrested in New York City 6 p.m.Wednesday with the help of  US Marshals, NYPD and State Police. Ramos is the main suspect in the homicide of Wendy Contreras. She was found dead inside her home in Shenandoah on West Centre Street Tuesday afternoon. Arrangements are being made to bring him back to Pennsylvania to face charges.

    SCRANTON — 14 people need new places to live after flames ripped through an apartment building Tuesday night in Scranton.     Police: Man Flown to Hospital After Teen Fired Shots

    FAIRMOUNT TOWNSHIP — Shots fired in a home in Luzerne County Monday night ended with a man in the hospital. The shots rang out on Mossville Road near Ricketts Glen State Park around 9:30 p.m. Officers said David Wheeler, 32, was arguing with a 16-year-old boy before the teen pulled the trigger. The man had to be flown to the hospital. Police have yet to say if any charges will be filed.

    Six Dogs Die in Fire

    MAHONING TOWNSHIP — Six dogs are dead after a house fire in Carbon County. Flames broke out around 8:00 Thursday evening at the house on Spruce Street in Mahoning Township, just outside Lehighton. Three people lived in the home, but no one was home at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Traffic was detoured in the area for several hours as firefighters battled the blaze.
