    SCRANTON — The Scranton school board has accepted the resignation of Superintendent Bill King. The board accepted King’s resignation Monday evening by a vote of 8 to 1. King will officially step down on October 1st a few weeks after the new school year begins. King has been the Superintendent¬† in Scranton since 2009.

    Woman Gets Diploma Decades After Crash Makes Her Miss Graduation

    LEWISBURG — A graduation decades in the making took place Wednesday evening in Union County. Marian Royer Roush earned her diploma from Lewisburg Area High School after nearly 55 years. Roush was hit by a car and critically injured just days before she was set to graduate back in 1960. She said Wednesday night’s ceremony was a dream come true. Roush said she has no real plans post-graduation aside from spending time with her family in Union County.

    TOWANDA — About 100 gallons of a solvent similar to kerosene spilled into the Susquehanna River in Bradford County Wednesday afternoon, according to officials with Global Tungsten and Powders Corporation. Boat crews and EMTs gathered at the company in Towanda. They have been out on the river using absorbent materials to clean up the spill.     SCRANTON — Police in Scranton charged a woman who they said was caught on surveillance video stealing money from veterans at a VFW on Memorial Day. The president of Post 25 along Rockwell Avenue in north Scranton supplied Newswatch 16 with the video. Authorities said Maria Maslar, 61, of Scranton can be seen taking cash left on the bar.     Four People Flown for Injuries After Crash in Saint Clair

    SAINT CLAIR — Four people were flown to hospitals after a crash in Schuylkill County Tuesday evening. Witnesses said two cars collided at the intersection of West Hancock and Route 61 in Saint Clair. Several people were hurt including a young boy. Three helicopters carried four victims to hospitals but authorities don’t believe any of the injuries are life-threatening. Police are investigating what caused the crash in Schuylkill County.
