    MADISON TOWNSHIP — One man is charged after a meth lab bust in Lackawanna County. Crews in hazmat suits were called to the home on Haas Pond Road near Moscow around 6 p.m. Thursday and took David Prestosh, 34, of Moscow into custody. The arrest stems from a month-long investigation from the Attorney General’s office. Prestosh was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.   • Fire in Wilkes-Barre Ruled Arson

    WILKES-BARRE – A fire in Wilkes-Barre over the weekend is a case of arson. So far, no arrests have been made. According to crews, a double block home on Carey Avenue burned on Saturday. Both sides were empty, but nearby homes were evacuated. No one was hurt. Authorities have not said if they have any suspects for the arson.

  • Elderly Couple Killed After Crash in Schuylkill County

    WAYNE TOWNSHIP – An elderly couple from Pottsville is dead after a crash in Schuylkill County Friday night. State Police said the husband and wife’s car wrecked when it hit a guiderail around 5 p.m.  along Route 183 and Blue Mountain Road in Wayne Township. Officials identity the victims as a Edwardine Hahn, 77,  who died at the scene and George Hahn, 81,  who passed away shortly after the crash at a hospital in Reading.

    We want to take a moment to wish a former member of Newswatch 16 a very happy 80th birthday. Jack Ruland was the station’s pilot back in 1979 and operated Skycam 16 until 1999 when he retired.   • Patches, the School Crossing Guard Dog, Gets New Job after being ‘Fired’

    JERSEY SHORE — Patches, a school crossing guard dog, that got  fired from his old job has a new gig in Lycoming County. The five-year-old Maltese poodle mix has been hired as a security guard dog and Good Will Ambassador at Country Beary Shack in Jersey Shore. The new job includes a new uniform.   • Police Search For Robber in Wilkes-Barre

    WILKES-BARRE – Police  are searching for the person who robbed a gas station in Wilkes-Barre. It happened just before 4:30 p.m. Monday at the PSC Gas Station on South Main Street. The suspect allegedly showed a knife during the robbery. Wilkes-Barre police have not released how much money the suspect got away with. There were no reports of any injuries.   • Two State Troopers Injured After Crash

    EATON TOWNSHIP –Two state troopers were injured after a crash Friday evening in Wyoming County. It happened on Route 29 in Eaton Township just south of Tunkhannock around 5:15 p.m. State police said one pickup truck was involved in the crash that injured the troopers and another pickup crashed a short time later.   • Deadly Fire Under Investigation in Susquehanna County

    APOLACON TOWNSHIP — A man is dead after a fire in Susquehanna County. Fire crews were called to the scene just before 5 a.m. Thursday. Flames broke out at a home on Lake Of Meadows Road in Apolacon Township. A man’s body was found inside. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning. The man’s identity is not being released until DNA tests are completed. The cause of the deadly fire in Susquehanna County remains under investigation.  

  • Penn State Fraternity Suspended After Hazing Investigation

    A Penn State University fraternity has been closed for at least the next two years. Pi Kappa Phi was under investigation for violating rules about hazing and alcohol use among other things. National fraternity leaders announced the decision to close the fraternity Thursday. This is not the same Penn State fraternity being investigated because members allegedly posted pictures of unconscious, semi-nude young women online.   • Puppy Stolen From Pet Shop in Wilkes-Barre

    WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes-Barre police need your help finding the woman who stole a puppy from a pet shop Thursday afternoon. It happened just after 3:30 at Tropic Pet Center in the South Main Plaza. Police said a woman wearing a brown jacket, between 30 and 40 years old with a birth mark on her right cheek, came into the shop and stole a brown female poodle puppy worth $1,000 and took off.   • Firefighters Battle Inferno in Wayne County

    DAMASCUS TOWNSHIP – Firefighters battled massive flames at a home in Wayne County on New Year’s Day. The inferno broke out at the house on Chicopee Road in Damascus Township just after 9 p.m. Crews on the scene said no one was hurt but two dogs died in the fire. Authorities said the people who lived there were not home at the time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
