  • Fashion Show Helps Benefit the Blind

    SCRANTON — Newswatch 16’s Tom and Noreen Clark helped emcee a fashion show in Scranton on Sunday. It was part of the 85th annual Helen Keller Day at St. Mary’s Center. Proceeds help benefit the Lackawanna Blind Association which provides services to the visually impaired.   • Man Found Sleeping in Laundromat Faces Burglary Charges

    WEST PITTSTON — A man found sleeping inside a laundromat in Luzerne County now faces burglary charges. Police say they found Harley Johnson sleeping inside the business on Wyoming Avenue Sunday morning. Officers say Johnson stayed inside after closing and stole money meant for customer refunds. Johnson is now locked up in the Luzerne County prison.

  • Home Damaged By Fire in Moosic

    MOOSIC — A family in Lackawanna County is picking up the pieces after a fire forced them out of their home. The fire started at a home on Joyce Street just after midnight. The fire chief says two adults and two children were home at the time but made it out safely. Firefighters believe a heater might have sparked the flames. The family of four is under the care of the red cross.

  • Police Investigate Pedestrian Crash

    WILKES-BARRE — A woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a car in Luzerne County Sunday night. Witnesses say two cars were speeding on the Market Street bridge when 20-year-old Wilkes student, Rebecca Filipski, was hit around 6:00 p.m. Market Street was shut down while crews cleaned up after the wreck. Wilkes-Barre police have not said if anyone has been charged.

  • Folks Celebrate Tabletop Day in Honesdale

    HONESDALE — Folks at The Cooperage in Wayne County were celebrating International Tabletop Day on Saturday. Dozens of kids and adults broke out their favorite board games and went to work playing games like a giant version of Carcassonne.   • Teens Lead Police on Chase With Stolen Vehicle

    JESSUP — Four teenagers lead police on a chase through Lackawanna County. According to police, a stolen car from Dunmore was located during a traffic incident in Jessup Saturday afternoon. The teens in the car lead police on a chase that ended with a chase on foot near the McClane Distribution Center and Kimberly Circle Housing. All four were taken into custody and are awaiting charges.

    SHICKSHINNY — Newswatch 16’s Dave Bohman was on hand today to help kick off the seventh annual ‘Susquehanna Warrior Trail 5k Race and Fun Walk.’ The 11 mile stretch in Luzerne County is a former railroad bed for the Delaware-Lackawanna railroad.   • Nine People in Custody After Prescription Drug Ring Bust

    LEHIGH VALLEY — Nine people are in custody, including two women from our area, after a drug bust in the Lehigh Valley. According to the Attorney General’s Office, Alison and Barbara Monfre from Carbon County both face a slew of charges after authorities say the two were involved in a prescription drug ring.     WILKES-BARRE — All kinds of items were for sale during the spring flea market and silent auction at the Salvation Army in Luzerne County.
