UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- State police say a 1-day-old infant was found dead at a home near Shickshinny.
State police and the coroner were at the home along Route 239 for most of the day Saturday. There are still many questions surrounding the baby's death.
Yellow crime scene tape blocked off the property.
Investigators believe the child was born at the home Friday afternoon, but the mother ended up at another location in Wilkes-Barre before she was taken to a hospital in the city Friday evening.
"Nothing like this happens around here, but we do not know the story yet, so we cannot jump to conclusions until we have all the details," said Rich Kollar of Shickshinny.
State police were at the home until late in the night.
It's unclear what, if any, relationship the mother and child have to the property owners.
According to officials, an autopsy for the baby will be done at a later date.
No more information has been released at this time.
