Suspicious Death Investigation in Luzerne County

LARKSVILLE, Pa. — Police are investigating a death in Luzerne County.

LARKSVILLE, Pa. -- Police are investigating a suspicious death in Luzerne County.

Investigators huddled together on the porch of 590 Washington Avenue in Larksville Tuesday morning after a man's body was found inside.

Authorities identified the victim as William Denman, age 64.

Neighbors watched all afternoon as state police looked for answers.

"Kind of shocked because that house was generally pretty quiet. The people who live there have a garden, they have a granddaughter and some grandchildren. They generally keep to themselves," said neighbor Phil Yeager.

In a search warrant obtained by Newswatch 16, troopers said Denman’s wife returned home from work on Tuesday morning and found William dead in the house.

A state police forensics unit found what looked like a small hole-type wound to his head. Troopers said he was lying face up on the couch at the time.

No weapon was left behind, which is why state police said this is suspicious.

Some neighbors were too afraid to show their faces on TV after seeing all the police activity.

"You're not used to seeing things like this every day around here," said a neighbor.

Neighbors were surprised to see troopers outside the home because they say the people who lived there were so friendly.

"They're nice people, very nice people, couldn't ask for nicer people than that."

An autopsy on William Denman is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
