WAYMART -- The snow is falling hard in parts of our area especially in Wayne County where as much as a foot of snow is possible.
In Waymart, the snow was coming down and piling up quickly at the higher elevation.
The wind was making it very difficult to see out on the roads, creating blizzard-like conditions.
Traveling faster than 30 miles per hour was nearly impossible without sliding. We saw many cars and trucks either stuck in unplowed turn or exit lanes or off the road completely and stuck in the median.
When we finally arrived in Waymart, we found the roads to be very messy and hard to maneuver.
A tractor-trailer got stuck coming up a hill between Prompton and Seelyville, causing a chain reaction of others stuck behind him and requiring members of volunteer fire companies to help.
Folks in Waymart were overwhelmed by the snowfall.
"I heard it's supposed to get a little more nastier but sometimes it's hard to tell," said Tim Wade.
But Wade has a plan.
"Dig, rest, see if it needs done again."
Farther east on Route 6, kids shoveling the sidewalks in Honesdale were doing the same thing.
"Basically, busting my butt," said Dylan McHale. "I should say trying to help out, be nice for the town and the borough of Honesdale and trying to help out the elderly so no one falls."
Businesses on Main Street in Honesdale closed early so patrons and employees wouldn't have to deal with the dangerous conditions on the road
"We're closing because of the bad roads and everything. Not that many people are out. A lot of people that are coming from Carbondale said that it took an hour to get here instead of 20 minutes or so," Brooke Rutherford said.
"Well, my work got canceled for me today and so I wanted to get ahead before it got too heavy and too much for me," Wade said.
We are seeing PennDOT and local snow plows out trying to get a handle on the roads.
