EAST STROUDSBURG -- A man was shot early Monday morning on the campus of East Stroudsburg University.

Police aren't saying much about what happened on campus around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

A 58-year-old man was shot on Normal Street in East Stroudsburg. His name has not been released.

State police spent hours at the scene looking for evidence.

According to East Stroudsburg University, 427 Normal Street, the address being processed, is commonly known as the ROTC building and it is university property.

There were yellow evidence markers on the front steps.

A spokesperson here at the university says the school hasn't received official notification from police of exactly what happened.

An advisory to students that there is an active criminal investigation on campus and streets are closed went out just before 8 a.m., about six hours after the shooting.

State police and a county detective walked up and down the block. A state police helicopter hovered overhead.

A pizza delivery van, still running, was behind the crime scene tape.

Police have not said if and how that van is connected to the shooting investigation.

Newswatch 16 was there as the van was impounded, lifted onto a rollback truck, and hauled away.

A man who's lived in this neighborhood for nearly 20 years says it's a safe place, and the shooting will not alter his behavior.

“I'm careful,” said Daniel Ockenhause. “I lock all my doors. I carry a cell
