SCRANTON -- A rig rolled over, spilling a load of scrap metal on Interstate 81 in Lackawanna County.

It happened at the Interstate 81 north on-ramp at the Business Route 6 exit (191) around 1 p.m. Thursday.

It appears the truck from Ben Weitsman of Scranton toppled while on the on-ramp and landed in the northbound lanes of I-81.

The scrap metal the truck was carrying spilled all over both lanes of the highway. All lanes of I-81 north were closed as crews cleaned up the big mess.

Drivers were directed off the highway at the exit just below this one and were put back on the highway at the Viewmont Mall.

A front-end loader was brought in to pick up all the scrap metal and put it into another truck. The heavy equipment made it look like light work and the mess was cleaned up and the interstate was reopened to traffic around 2:30 p.m.

It took a bit longer for crews to right the dump truck that kept the highway on-ramp closed later into the afternoon.

Dickson city police tell us no one was hurt. State police are investigating the crash. There is no word on whether the driver will face any charges or citations.
