Deadly Crash Near Hazleton

HAZLE TOWNSHIP -- One person died in a crash in Luzerne County Tuesday afternoon.

A car and tractor trailer collided just before 3:30 p.m. on Route 924 just off Interstate 81 near Hazleton.

State police say the driver of the car, Marleny Caba Guzman, 25, of Hazleton, died. She was not wearing a seatbelt. A passenger in the car was taken to the hospital.

Troopers said Caba Guzman did not stop at a red light on Route 924 and collided with the tractor trailer, which was turning onto the interstate.

It’s not cold enough for the cop to be wearing a coat let alone a sweater this time of the year. Correct me if I’m wrong but this really concerns me

    • I'll correct you, you're wrong

According to the National Weather Service, it was 61 degrees with light rain in Hazleton at the time of the crash. Jacket weather to me…

Or, we can just leave well enough alone and let nature take its course. Excessive speed, drunk, high, texting, no seat belt – pretty soon the problem will take care of itself.

L&R… as a retired reconstructionist, I agree with your assessment. The lone problem with your scenario is the unacceptable carnage these drivers inflict on others. It’s not only the offending driver who’s at risk. Other drivers are completely unaware of what might be coming their way. Roadways and weather conditions are NEVER at fault. It’s ALWAYS human error.

Biggest issue with this road is speed!! The cars fly on 924 like it was a race way! Every time someone gets killed you will see the cops around for a couple of days then they are gone. I travel this road at least 6 times a day, I do the speed limit and I’m passed up like I’m in reverse most of the time! The lights are not regulated correctly in the morning with no left turn changes at all so you can not get onto 81 if you are coming from the industrial park at 6am. The cars will pass you in the turning lane, no one pays attention to the 2 lefts coming off of 81 so they come into your lane pushing you into oncoming traffic. Vehicles are always going through red lights, it doesn’t matter because they know it’s not patrolled so it’s a free for all. Something needs to be done, everyone thinks the planned new road will solve all problems but it will not, the people will still continue to speed and ignore the traffic laws but you can’t tell the officials that because they are not looking at the big picture which is non regulated speed, non regulated traffic lights and most importantly people who do not know the traffic laws! Maybe there needs to be money spent solely on keeping law enforcement on that road instead of making another drag strip for everyone to race on!!

That is a really bad intersection that the state needs to fix. You should come with a film crew between 6 am and 8 am on weekdays to see how bad it is. The state needs to build a new entrance to the industrial park of of route 424.

I wish they would come also!! They can ride with me any day in an unidentified vehicle, maybe if it were made more public something would get done!

You are 100% correct, that’s the point, they fly like idiots but the bad part is a lot of times they cause accidents that they aren’t involved with and an innocent person gets hurt or killed, in this case the truck driver was not at fault but will have to live with it the rest of their lives. It’s really a demolition derby on that road, I had family members get hit and pushed off the road and the other cars just kept going. It’s a shame.
