WILKES-BARRE -- Firefighters in Wilkes-Barre battled a stubborn, smoky house fire Friday afternoon.

It happened just after 1 p.m. at a double-block house on Auburn Street in Wilkes-Barre.

Eight people live there and all got out safely.

Surrounding homes were also evacuated due to heavy smoke.
