WATSON TOWNSHIP -- A man found in Lycoming County with no memory of who he is has been identified.

The man's family saw his picture on Newswatch 16 at noon and was reunited with him Thursday afternoon.

Police says his name is Michael Gebhart and before today the 55-year-old man hasn't been seen by his family for over a month

He was living in Muncy, but when police met him Thursday morning, Gebhart told them he had no idea where he lived or who he was.

Sgt. Brian Fioretti with Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police tells Newswatch 16 Gebhart woke up on the back of a porch next to the Rails to Trails path near Jersey Shore confused and alone.

"When I walked in, the first thing he asked me was, 'do you know who I am?' And I said, 'no, I don't' and he said, 'neither do I,'" said Sgt. Fioretti. "He had no idea who he was, where he was from or anything, had no ID on him. The only thing he said he had was a set of car keys on him."

Fioretti said with no idea where he was or who he was, Gebhart saw the parking lot and noticed the highway and that's where he went.

With just two keys in his pocket and the clothes on his back, he started down Route 44 and two men driving a white vehicle picked him up.

Police say the man was dropped off on Thomas Street and made his way to the Unimart where they did get him some help.

For the past month, Gebhart's family has been looking for him. They identified him Thursday with help from police, however, Gebhart still has no memory.

"He wants to know who he is and where he is from and that's, obviously, I'd like to know that too," said Sgt. Fioretti. "You just don't want to release him and say, 'sorry, I can't help you,' and let him wander around."

Police tell us that, in a weird coincidence, Gebhart's family members flew in from Texas Thursday morning. The family was planning to file a missing person's report but ended up reuniting with him instead.
