UPDATE: Alleged Gunman in Wilkes-Barre Shooting Arrested

WILKES-BARRE -- Police in Wilkes-Barre are investigating overnight gunfire and a chase.

Officers heard shots and then saw a car take off after a crash near East Northampton Street Wednesday night.

Police chased the car before it hit a parked vehicle on South Grant Street.

According to the Luzerne County D.A., the driver, later identified as Barry Edwards, firearm in hand, rushed the officer who was still in his marked patrol unit with lights and sirens activated. The officer fired one shot and both Edwards and a passenger took off.

Edwards was picked up in Newark, New Jersey while being treated for a single gunshot wound.  He is being brought back from New Jersey to face charges.

I’m guessing all of the ones talking trash on w-b are in the back mt. well let me inform you that you’re no better as there are just as many scumbag drug users out there as in the city. instead of trash talking maybe it should be a combined effort for this whole area to help one another get rid of the nasty heroin and meth abuse that is ravaging the WHOLE northeast.

Wilkes Barre, the “minority” training ground for shooting before they go back to NYC, Trenton, Philly, Newark and Chicago! The ENTIRE Wyoming Valley is one big GHETTO!!

You are 110% right! Wow has this valley gone downhill & just gets worse year after year! I used to wonder why all these out of towners move here but now I’m more concerned with moving out of here & never ever coming back & I am born & raised here unfortunately! I can’t stand it here anymore .

Maybe your reporters should get their reports from other news sources. Shots were not fired from S. Grant St. Buy a scanner and you would hear that shots were actually fired on New Hancock St. Shody reporting.

Shots were fired on S Grant. Police pursued the vehicle which crashed over on New Hancock. Other shots may have been fired over there but it started on S Grant/E Northampton.

No, the actual truth is that the shots WERE fired on South Grant Street, right in front of our houses. We were the ones outside with our flashlights, locating the shell casings as well as the parked vehicle that was hit by a bullet. It was very disturbing, to say the least. Not sure why, but seemed to take forever for an actual WB City officer to arrive on the scene and even as of this morning, shell casings remained on the scene. I can tell already there will be a great deal of misinformation out there, but I can tell you as one who had to endure this ordeal right outside my house, it was certainly South Grant Street where this high speed shoot-out took place.

Maybe you should pay better attention to the scanner or buy a hearing aid. Shots were fired on E. Northampton FIRST – reason being why the police pursued them. Shots were fired again on New Hancock ..

So I’m guessing you lay around your house in your underwear all day listening to the scanner so you can post inaccurate stories? Is that your case, no job, sucking money from tax payers so you can do nothing?

Shots were fired on New Hancock the crash was right across the street from my car. Police were here until about 5 am. Anyone that says it didn’t happen on Hancock Street is wrong. I was woken to the loud bang and police telling shots fired.

“Shots Fired in Wilkes-Barre…” same sh*t different day. How many times in the last year have we read the same headline?
