SCRANTON -- A woman has been sentenced to prison for a deadly hit and run in Scranton.
Tiffany Timko from Hazleton was sentenced Tuesday morning to one to three years in prison. Timko pleaded guilty in November to involuntary manslaughter in the death of Betty Sawkulich.
The sister of the woman killed in that hit and run two years ago says she's disappointed with the sentence for the driver.
Kayla Pacewicz often wears a t-shirt she had made with a favorite photo of her older sister. Betty Sawkulich died in February of 2015, days after being hit by a car on South Main Avenue in Scranton. The driver took off.
Sawkulich left behind seven children.
"I really feel bad for my nieces," Pacewicz said. "The baby was like a newborn. She's 2 now."
Kayla was watching Newswatch 16 and saw that the hit and run driver had been sentenced. She's lost touch with her family since her sister's death.
Timko was tracked down thanks to a tip that led police to her damaged car. Timko had told friends she hit a refrigerator.
"She was a good mother, good wife, good sister. She was a good person," said Pacewicz . "She was only walking to the store to go get cigarettes and this girl hit her for nothing. Then she wants to say a truck was in front of her and refrigerator fell off of it or whatever. Come on. You knew you hit a person."
Timko will serve one to three years in state prison for Betty's death. She pleaded guilty last year to involuntary manslaughter.
Kayla thinks she should be serving time for homicide by motor vehicle which would carry a heftier prison sentence.
"You hit my sister, and she left seven kids behind. You should do life in prison."
In addition to Timko's prison sentence of one to three years, she must also serve two years of probation.
