One Man Dead After Explosion in Wyoming County

FACTORYVILLE -- One person is dead after an explosion in Wyoming County.

Emergency crews were called to Thompson Road in Factoryville around 6:30 p.m. Monday for reports of an explosion.

According to the coroner, Steve Swift, 43, of Factoryville died while using heavy machinery to move burning debris near the Factoryville Borough Shed when some type of explosion occurred.

The blast could be heard and felt for miles from La Plume Township to Tunkhannock Township.

The coroner said nearby buildings were damaged in the area of the explosion.

A two-mile stretch of Thompson Road was closed for hours.

State police are investigating what led to the deadly explosion.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
