Palmerton area school district average salary is $59,710. Salary range is $40,190 – $85,500. Cut and paste “palmerton, pa school district starting salary” in Google and this is the first result. Meanwhile, the 2010 census shows the median income for a household in the borough was $31,522 (source is Wikipedia). Something tells me you would live quite comfortably earning the starting salary of $40,190. And these greedy teachers want more? Yes, I know the health insurance costs. Yes I know the pension. I’m happy to have employer provided health insurance where the employer pays 60%. And I’m VERY lucky to have a pension plan where my employer pays 1% of my final salary for each year of employment. I think a 10% pay CUT is more in order than any increase they’re asking for. Let’s level their salary to be more in-line with the rest of the town and give the taxpayers a break.

Many states have laws that prevent teacher strikes. Pennsylvania should pass such laws. Teacher strikes serve no worthwhile purpose and harm the education of our children.

Great example for the kids. “I didn’t get what I wanted. So, I’m taking my ball and going home.” These teachers should have researched the profession, a little more closely, if all they want is money. Hopefully, the GOP leaders that PA elected, in Washington, help to gut these greedy unions.
